The Elementary Science Program offers math/science kits for students in grades kindergarten through six, and special education classes. Using hands-on experience, these kits coordinate to the New York State Math, Science and Technology Learning Standards. Every grade level has a math skills unit that emphasizes the link between math and science while some also include a technology unit. Kits enable students to develop effective communication skills and positive attitudes. Kits assist teachers in providing authentic assessment experiences for children. In the life science unit, students study the growth and development of both plants and animals while working cooperatively in groups. The physical science kits emphasize the inquiry and problem solving processes as students perform experiments in electricity, buoyancy, earth science, chemistry, sound and light energy. The technology components encompass a problem solving issue for students to apply the knowledge they have learned whether it is building a wind-powered vehicle or designing a way to preserve a sandwich, or building a model flower to withstand wind.
